APPreciation Day —

The greatest craving of human nature is to be appreciated.” William James
There was a particular cycle of my life when I was feeling very appreciative of the world around me and I was inspired to create my very own ‘official’ holiday.   I wanted to have a significant day where I (we) could acknowledge and appreciate many of the people, places and pets that deserve some special recognition.  I chose the month of August because there was no other official holiday on the calendar–unless you count my birthday!–and I chose the 25th as it is reminiscent of Christmas when people typically show their appreciation of others with some form of acknowledgement and/or gift.

For me, appreciation is different from thankfulness. It is a different artistry than gratitude.

ap·pre·ci·a·tion

noun:
1. the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone
or something; 2. a full understanding of a situation

Appreciation and gratitude are a must if you choose to become the architect of increased happiness in your own fulfillment.”  Doc Childre

Back in the early 90’s, when I created and launched August 25th as my personal and official Appreciation Day, it was long before the invention of the ubiquitous (and much appreciated) smart phones. As most of us know, these smart phones operate using software applications known as “apps”.

Not only a smart phone owner and avid user, I have come to rely daily on many of the apps for the myriad of creative and productive options they offer me to improve and enrich my life.

Last month, I got to thinking about the upcoming Appreciation Day and noticed that I was once again invited to play with words and alter the spelling to APPreciation. I definitely value and appreciate my iPhone for the creative, productive and even spiritual apps that daily improve my productivity and well being. Kinda like my daily spiritual practice.

Not many of us have the time or talent to design a tangible smartphone app but all of us are equipped with the ability to use our Mind’s software. We can evolve our own internal App that reminds us on a daily basis to pause, appreciate and to give thanks for the many blessings that surround us. After all, to appreciate something (ask any realtor) is to increase its value.

Affirmation:

“I appreciate my life and Life appreciates me. I apply the spiritual principle of gratitude every day and my attitude and my experience increase in value. I’m so blessed. And so it is.”

  2. Hey, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your blog in Safari, it looks
fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping.
I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, superb blog!

  3. Outstanding post, you have pointed out some good details, I also conceive this is a very great website.

  4. May I simply just say what a relief to discover an individual who really understands what they are discussing over the internet.
You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and
make it important. A lot more people should read this and understand this side of your story.
I was surprised that you are not more popular since you surely have the gift.

  5. Duchess Dale says:

    Happy New Year.
And thank you for your kind words.
My goal is to write more often.

    Blessings
